1978 Chevy Crew Cab Dually: Behind the Scenes - Deconstructing the Install
br>
-
This is not a pic of this vehicle, but of the same year to show the body style.
-
Started out with (3) Audiobahn AW1200Q - 12" subwoofers in a sealed enclosure behind the rear seat. The grills were not added for cosmetic purposes (as the box is behind the seat) but to protect the subs from slapping against the back of the seat.
-
Two Audiobahn High Current Rack Mount amplifiers are going to be used. To get them to mount under the rear seat as we wanted, the floorboard was slightly modified.
-
-
The lower portions of each door panel were rebuilt and molded outward to house the Audiobahn speakers that would be going in them. Here you can see the old ones stacked on top of each other in the middle of this pic. The new rear panels are on the left, while the new front door panels are on the right.
-
Closer look at the front panels. They will house a set of Audiobahn ACIS62 - 6.5" Component Speaker Set.
-
Here's a closer look at the rear door panels. They will house a set of Audiobahn 6.5" coaxial speakers for rear fill.
-
This picture doesn't really do justice for the fiberglass molding that was done, but neither does the carpet that was wrapped over it. He has suggested tweed, vinyl, or even paint to highlight the molding. Think materials like carpet tent to hide the detail and curves of the glass work.
-
Here is how it looks with the grill in place. Regular grill cloth was used as the material of choice.
-
Later, we built a BIG enclosure for this truck. Customer wanted to compete in dB Drag Racing. Enclosure houses (4) Audiobahn AW1200Q's.
-
The "mini" one in the picture was one we built for a Tahoe.
-
Next to the Coke machine, you can get an idea of the size of the Dually box.
